Lessons from the Stage

By Abrahim Harb

To all the characters from the the stage that teach us lessons...

To Tracy for showing us how to stand up for what is right by being a freedom fighter - and for teaching us how to see in color.

To Elphaba for showing us that being laughed at isn't necessarily bad - and for teaching us that doing the right thing won't always make you popular.

To Christine for showing us how compassion can change the world - and for teaching us not to judge a book by its cover.

To Eliza for showing us how to grant forgiveness to our loved ones - and for teaching us how to enjoy the small things in life.

To Roxy for showing us what happens when narcissism takes over your life - and for teaching us what happens when you care more about being recognized than what you're recognized for.

To Angel for showing us all that kindness goes a long way - and for teaching us how to live life without regret.

To Frank N Furter for showing us what happens when you're selfish and sinister - and for teaching us how to be sexually liberated.

To Pippin for showing us what happens when you are struggling to find purpose in life - and for teaching us that your purpose can be mundane.

To Aladdin for showing us that not all thieves steal for the fun of it but for survival - and for teaching us that a heart of gold can take you somewhere splendid.

To Evan for showing us what happens when you're ashamed of your mental illness - and for teaching us that it does get better but has to sometimes get bad before it does.

To Shrek for showing us what happens when people judge your outward appearance - and for teaching us that leading with a big heart can reap its rewards.

To Sweeney for showing us what happens when you're consumed by revenge - and for teaching us what happens when you become so focused on that revenge that you can not allow yourself forgiveness.

And to the many other characters who teach us lessons that we can take from the stage to our own lives...
