This poem is completely relatable to anyone who is in a toxic or non-loving relationship. In analyzing this poem, one may notice the part where the narrator falls of the boat... the boat itself might represent their relationship and by the young woman saving the narrator, is she actually hurting them both by keeping the relationship going? This thought was formed because the narrator said it was a cruel thing for her to save them; by drowning would the narrator have ended their relationship? A very interesting and well written poem; many shall enjoy it both for its tone as well as trying to gain a sense of its meaning.
